WordLeaf Privacy Policy
Effective September 29, 2026. WordLeaf is an iPhone and iPad reading companion provided by Jason Kou.
Information on your device
Reader nicknames, book-page photos, recognized text, saved words, reading history, progress, and settings are stored locally. Camera images and voice input are processed on your device. Speech recognition requires on-device support and does not fall back to a cloud service. WordLeaf does not send reading information to a developer-operated server.
Optional language help
Generated explanations and translations use Apple's on-device capabilities when available. Natural speech uses bundled Kokoro models or Apple voices. Apple manages system models and language-pack downloads. WordLeaf has no cloud inference service.
Purchases
Apple processes in-app purchases through your Apple Account. WordLeaf reads verified StoreKit entitlements and stores trial timing locally to determine access. We do not receive payment card details. A trial does not automatically charge you or renew. Lifetime access is a separate, one-time purchase. No WordLeaf account is required.
Sharing and tracking
WordLeaf has no advertising, third-party analytics, or tracking, and does not sell reading information. External source links open third-party websites under their own privacy policies. If you export content or send feedback, you choose the destination and information you share. Support email is used to respond to your request; please do not send children's photos or voice recordings.
Your choices
You can remove saved words and reading-history entries in the app. Removing a reading-history entry also removes its saved photo copy. To remove all local WordLeaf data, use Delete App in iPhone or iPad Settings; offloading keeps app data. Device backups are managed by your Apple settings and may retain app data. WordLeaf does not provide cross-device reading sync. Camera and microphone permissions can be changed in Settings. Declining them leaves typed lookup and other available inputs usable.
